Q:  Weight Gain & Meds

Dear Dr.P.

I am a female/ 66 yrs. I am currently on 75mcg Synthroid, 20mg Paxil & Estratest H.S. & 200mg Celebrex. I can not understand the nearly 90 lbs. weight gain I have had. I pretty much stayed in the range of 140 for 25 yrs. I have no hunger pang and yet I have the urge to nibble. I have only been on the Synthroid for 2 mos. In reading your web site. I am curious if I would be better off on just the Synthroid and ease off the Paxil and also the Estratest. Or perhaps see if I should get onto the medication Topomax and drop the others.

Thank You

Dear Ms. M' --
Paxil has been associated with weight gain.  With Estratest I have no experience.  Be cautious, and work with your doc' on this, and make changes slowly if you can afford to with your symptoms.  Maybe a re-examination of diagnosis would be warranted as well if you've been surfing around bipolar material.  Good luck with that.

Dr. Phelps
